Loyalist paramilitary plinths erected in a government-funded garden are "extremely regrettable", a Housing Executive spokesman has said. The £74,000 project in Bangor's Kilcooley estate was meant to be linked to the removal of murals and graffiti. Area manager Stephen Graham said the funding paid for a WWI memorial in the original specification but the plinths appeared "at the eleventh hour". He said they were urgently seeking meetings with local representatives. Three black stones bear inscriptions dedicated to the "glorious memory" of the UDA, UVF, and Red Hand Commando.
