I just read this from a friend of mine who lives in the province.
I don't suppose this news has hit the mainland, but one of the men accused of murdering Sappers Mark Quinsey & Patrick Azimkar outside Massereene Army Barracks in Antrim in March this year was released from HMP Maghaberry yesterday. It is said that Brian Shivers is suffering from Cystic Fibrosis and was granted bail because prison chiefs failed to provide proper medical treatment for him.
The 44-year-old republican terrorist who was refused bail a month ago is also accused of possessing firearms and ammunition connected to the murder of the two Soldiers.
His lawyer (Orlando Pownall) told the High Court in Belfast that his client had been denied antibiotics and other medication while in jail. He also told the Court that his client had been admitted to hospital on 31st August when his lung capacity had dropped to 40%.
Lord Justice Coghlin ruled that Shivers should be released for good because he could not be sure that medical safe-guards were in place in the prison Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad A cash surity of £100,000 was submitted, along with the deeds to a £140,000 house owned by his mother.
My question is - if they can't treat him properly in this prison, then send him to one that will. I'd gladly drive up to Maghaberry prison every day with the proper medication just to make sure he stays there where he belongs.
Brian Shivers WILL NOT serve another day in prison ...... Lord Justice Coghlin should hang his head in shame, as should our British Judicial system that allows such travesties of justice to continue.
Other news ...... after the arrest and eventual jailing of three republicans on Thursday, rioting broke out in Lurgan (Co. Armagh). The town erupted in violence and vehicles were hi-jacked and set alight. Masked gunmen were also seen on the streets (strange that, since all the weapons were handed in ... and what about the 'peace' the rest of the world thinks we have here)
This is just more of the same old story.
No action will be taken against 'republican dissidents' until the idiots take it so far that the respective authorities run out of effective justifications as measured against the atrocity committed.
Just how far do these morons have to go before the bloody government takes its collective hands from under its collective arses.
Peace is worth fighting for, peace is worth compromise. Peace is not worth capitulation and submittal to blackmail.
It's time the kid glove was taken back off. I don't advocate re-deployment, this is not needed. The authorities and the judicial system have the wherewithal, what they lack is the backbone and the will to implement it.
Its disgusting and an affront to all those who made the supreme sacrifice, to those who remain scarred, disabled and crippled for peace.
