Soldiers have not been brought in to south Armagh to tackle dissident republicans, police have said.
The comments came at a DPP meeting in Crossmaglen, following last month's illegal checkpoint in the village of Meigh.
SDLP councillor Frank Feely asked the area commander about the rumours of the Army returning.
Chief Inspector Sam Cordner said that there was "no suggestion" of re-introducing the military to the area.
"That's not on the agenda at all, Newry and Mourne and south Armagh will be policed by the PSNI - end of story," he said.

what's surprises me is the fact that the possibility of re-deployment is even being discussed. Hopefully it is just local big mouths trying to cause a little confusion on the ground, though it is not right that the administration should even give credence to the allegations by deeming to answer at all.
