The latest armoured vehicles being sent to do battle with the Taliban are tested to the limit by a specialist unit at Bovington in Dorset. Report by Kevin Slade. Bovington Camp, established in 1916, is the home of the Royal Armoured Corps and an ideal location to trial and test the latest armoured equipment in use on operations worldwide. Surrounded by 10,000 acres of undulating Dorset countryside, it is here that the Army's Armoured Trials and Development Unit (ATDU) gets its hands on the latest vehicles for the armoured soldier, and some of the specialist vehicles like Panther. Following a series of trials Panther is being delivered to the front line for use in the force protection role by the Royal Engineers, Royal Logistic Corps and RAF Regiment. Changes to bring it up to 'theatre entry standard' include adding a rear view camera for improved situational awareness, and protection for the engine compartment. More >>Attachments:

Another crock of s**t. Looks an over weight Land Rover to me, that might stop a 9mm pistol bullet fired from 50mtrs maybe? Fuel is going up by 2p a litre next week which will earn gov £600m. I wounder how much of that is going to help our lads?

Looks suspiciously like a Hummer to me - a square-section roll-bar, just an armoured box on wheels. In total difference to the WMIK Rovers, there is no means to return fire apart from the remote-control cannon on the roof without leaving the vehicle, which they might have to if the roof gun goes down. At least with the WMIK/Wolf they can put fire down from three weapons to support foot patrols or to cover a withdrawl. As Cammy says, this is shite and is just lining some fat git's pocket. Where are the Warriors and Challengers?
