A man has been arrested over a murder in Belfast 36 years ago.
The 58-year-old is being questioned about the killing of Alfredo Fusco in February 1973. The married father-of-four died after a gun attack at his cafe on the York Road in north Belfast. The man was arrested by officers from the PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team. He is currently being questioned at Antrim PSNI station. According to Lost Lives, the book chronicling every death in the Northern Ireland conflict, Mr Fusco was shot by a loyalist who was armed with a handgun. No organisation claimed responsibility for the killing, though the UDA was suspected. An RUC officer told an inquest he had no doubt it was a sectarian attack. Mr Fusco was described in newspapers as "a prominent member of the Belfast Italian community." Another man, Samuel Reynolds who was nearby, collapsed and died from a heart attack on hearing the gunshots which killed Mr Fusco.
