The Government has rejected the findings of a group of MPs who have heavily criticised Britain's military mission in Afghanistan. The committee said the UK had failed to achieve what it had promised, with troops given too many tasks, and they should instead focus on the single priority of security. Since deploying to Afghanistan in 2001, the UK has suffered "significant mission creep" with a growing list of responsibilities, including drugs, human rights and state-building. This has made it more difficult for the Government to explain the purpose of Britain's mission, said the report by the cross-party House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee. But Defence minister Bill Rammell told Sky News' Sunday Live: "We are focused on security and I think, with respect, the Foreign Affairs Committee is a bit behind the game. "It has always been about security, and indeed our revised strategy from earlier this year very effectively makes that point." Full Story >>
