THREE Liverpool FC legends will be taking to the stage to mark the 50th anniversary of Bill Shankly’s arrival at the Kop. Ian St John, Ron Yeats and Chris Lawler will all take part in two special summer productions of The Bill Shankly Story, which has played to packed houses at home and abroad since its 2006 premiere.
Producer and scriptwriter John Keith speaks Shankly’s words while actor Steve Hazlehurst narrates the story, from the Scot’s birth in the Ayrshire pit village of Glenbuck, through his glory years at Anfield to his untimely death in 1981.
His three former players Šrecall revealing personal memories and anecdotes about football’s most charismatic manager.
“The show Šcaptures the man behind the legend, told by people who knew Shanks and played for him,” says StŠJohn, the centre forward who became a folk hero of the Kop.
“The atmosphere generated by the audiences, and the wide age range of the people coming to see the show, proves that Bill Shankly is a man who will be remembered as long as football’s played.”
The Bill Shankly Story is at St Helens Theatre Royal Šon Wednesday, July 8, and New Brighton Floral Pavilion, on Friday, August 21.
