Cash boost to ‘speed up’ forces housing improvements Treasury offers £50m advance for accommodation project Published: 24 June 2009 Service families face 20-year wait for decent homes Hundreds of forces families could be moving to improved accommodation sooner than expected, thanks to a cash injection from the Treasury. An advance of £50 million is being provided to fast-track improvement works on both Single Living Accommodation (SLA) and Service Family Accommodation (SFA). The advance is part of Government plans to spend £8.4bn on service accommodation over the next 10 years. Veterans Minister Kevan Jones said: “The announcement to advance £50m for improving service accommodation is great news for the thousands of service personnel and their families whose homes can now be refurbished even sooner than planned. These funds will allow us to target improvements at those returning from operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.”
