Published: 24 March 2009
The public has been encouraged to wear a yellow ribbon to show its support for British troops this week.
The annual Yellow Ribbon for the Forces Week takes place during the last week of March (24th – 30th) and aims to demonstrate non-political support and recognition of the armed forces.
Members of the public are also encouraged to turn their streets yellow and even wear yellow outfits into work or school to show their support for The Yellow Ribbon Foundation.
Founder Victoria Evans said: "There is a huge amount of support out there for our serving personnel and their families, which is proven every year when people from all walks of life, all colours and creeds, come together in support of Yellow Ribbon for the Forces Week.”
The MoD’s awareness campaign has also received support from high profile sports celebrities such Chelsea football players John Terry and Joe Cole, and other sports teams such as London Irish and the Saracens.
The Yellow Ribbon Campaign was launched in 2003. This year, it is raising funds for the Royal British Legion.
