Ross Kemp, of ‘in Afghanistan’ fame, was talking to Legion yesterday. He says that although the MoD tells him not to encourage it, the troops on the ground really do love getting shoeboxes full of goodies that Legion members send out to them. He suggested however, that although it’s lovely that people care, hand-knitted scarves aren’t ideal for the 50-degree temperatures in Musa Qala and – without wanting to sound ungracious or as if they’re begging for things – what they’d really like are things like tea-bags, sealed bags of ‘proper’ coffee and chewy sweets that can take away the dust from the back of the throat. “There ought to be a website out there with ideas of things to send,” he said.

My sister is the catering manager at our local school.. we will be doing like we have done for the past 5 years, and sending at least (with the help of the kids) 10 shoe boxes, over for our troops.... and we will continue to do so as long as they are there.
