A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan, the second serviceman to die in the country in recent days, the Ministry of Defence said on Sunday. The soldier from 38 Engineer Regiment had been on patrol near Sangin in Helmand Province on Saturday evening. Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson paid tribute to the soldier, who was on attachment to 2nd Battalion The Rifles. "My fellow Sapper gave his life for his country and the freedom of the Afghan people. There is no greater sacrifice than this." Earlier the Ministry of Defence named a soldier shot dead while on foot patrol near Sangin on Friday as 28-year-old Petero "Pat" Suesue, from 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Reuters >>

Rest easy, both of you. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Our village, (Partington), is only small. A Royal British Legion branch of just 56 members. But we are true to our cause. We respect the dedication & heroism of our brave troops on active service. Each and every time we lose them, we mourn them. We feel the pain of their families, and we pray for them, and our Union Jack at the Cenotaph will fly at half mast. God bless and keep, our brave, and fallen hero's.
