Nearly 2,000 British Service personnel descended on the Czech Republic over the last few weeks to take part in the Army's biggest overseas multi-national Air Land Integration Exercise this year. The British personnel from 1 (UK) Armoured Division joined a multi-national contingent, containing troops from Denmark, Canada, Lithuania, Germany and the host nation, to take part in the three-week long Exercise Flying Rhino which is designed to prepare troops for deployment to operational theatres such as Afghanistan. The exercise included training with fast jets, helicopters, self-propelled artillery, rockets, and air defence systems, and this year saw the use of live artillery. Mod News >>

This exercise was sponsored by EA Games, makers of 'Medal Of Honor'. It will be marketed for the Christmas market as a dvd set, a series of games, a line of action figures and a chain of themed restaurants. "Do you want fries with your Combat Bargain Bucket?" AN MoD spokesperson said: "This is an exciting new step which allows the Armed Forces to fund its world-wide campaigns. With the royalties from this collaboration the support action in Afghanistan can be kept going for another eighteen months." The spokesperson denied that as part of the deal, the Armed Forces have to actively involve themselves in further conflicts to develop the series of games.
