Might be good kit but I'm not impressed by the lack of overhead protection or roll bars - the South Africans had the right idea as their vehicles had a bar at each wheel position, that encirlcled the vehicle and allowed it to roll back onto its wheels if subject to blast attack. Also a lack of mesh to protect against RPG attack. Still anything is better than the Snatch.....

It is with some dismay that I hear that one of the fatalities in Helmand today was caused by an IED against a Jackal vehicle.

I would feel a bit exposed sitting on that vehicle Stevie. I would have thought that the chassis area was fitted with deflective armour. That said, if the IED is big enough then it will take out any of the smaller vehicles. It's sad, any loss is a tragedy.

These sods are using old aircraft ordnance like 500kg bombs and the like. Not much can stand against that sort of impact. Agreed Ed, any loss is a tragedy. These lads deserve whatever can be provided for them.
