A steel cage which has protected an iconic Orange hall in north Belfast from attacks is to be taken down. Orange brethren at the hall on Clifton Street are planning a complete face-lift for the landmark building. The hall is close to the Carlisle Circus interface which separates the loyalist Shankill estate from the republican New Lodge area. Read about it Here >>At last, a positive story from the Province.

Its sits right on the Circus, overlooking the West Link and literally a stone's throw from the end of the Antrim Road and what used to be Unity Flats. It'll take a fortune and a lot of time to remove the dirt and grime of forty years, to return it to its former glory. And when they do, without doubt it'll be petrol-bombed within twenty-four hours....sorry to be negative Ed but with new-build housing on the Crumlin Road, a short distance from the old jail and on the interface with the Shankill, was getting their windows smashed and damaged to stop people from occupying them, its hard to see that this 'monument to British rule' will be allowed to remain.
