The rhetoric is heating up, the pace is accelerating. It looks as if Pakistan's fragmented ruling elite have completely failed to hang on to control of the divergent populace of the NWF and even, to some extent in the heartlands of the country as a whole. The US is threatening to insert itself into the Swat districts and Gordon Brown has now flown to Pakistan to have talks with the countries leaders. I'm sorry to say that this just sounds all too familiar - the US/UK double act looks set to throw themselves into the mix. While this may be posturing and politics right now, I sincerely hope that I will not need to open a new board to cater for 'The British Army in Pakistan' in the year 2010.

I think this would be a 'hidden' war, similar to that in Cambodia and Laos during the Vietnam war. The US bombed and attacked the Viet Cong in these countries but always steadfastly denied any military involvement. I don't doubt that billions will be poured into 'relief efforts' that will never save one life or rebuild one. Another 'job creation sceme' and a means for the big defence companies to restock their cash assets.

Seeing as how the Yanks are already bombing the NWF area (and probably right in to Swat), that scenario you outlined makes a lot of sense already, and of course.....there are no UK special forces involved are there.... The fundamentalists would just love to have another war zone in the area. If they work at it, they'll get one.
