The RAF Waddington International Air Show experienced record crowds this year with an estimated 170,000 people attending the premier RAF air show which took place last weekend, 4-5 July 2009. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Good weather and a superb line-up guaranteed the bumper attendance this year with all of RAF Waddington's personnel on duty over the weekend along with some of their civilian colleagues ensuring the smooth running of the air show. RAF Waddington is located near Lincoln and is home to the RAF Air Command's surveillance and reconnaissance assets, with Sentinel R1, Nimrod R1 and Sentry E-3D aircraft based at the station. Almost continuously active since first opening as a Royal Flying Corps training base in 1916, Waddington has since become one of the RAF's busiest operational airfields and, today, its squadrons and personnel are involved in supporting operations all around the world. Looked like a great show. Couldn't help thinking this while reading: "...the presence of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight whose team won the 'Most Polished and Accurate Flying Display'...." "their last public appearence before deploying to Afghanistan" ;D
