From: Colonel M G C Amlôt OBE DL Regimental Secretary The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment Fulwood Barracks Preston PR2 8AA I am very sorry to have to inform you that Mike Atkinson, a dedicated King's Regiment volunteer officer, died in the Royal Hospital Liverpool on 2 June 2009. He served in 5/8 KINGS, in 1 KINGS on SSVC and as CO of Liverpool UOTC. Recently he had been an active and most effective member of the Merseyside ABF committee. Mike and Janet his wife were divorced. He leaves two daughters. He had been living with his partner for some time and she was a great strength to him in his last few months. Mike had been suffering from cancer of the bowel for some time and he has undergone the last few months with great fortitude. He was visited in the last few days by friends from the Merseyside ABF committee who continued to be impressed by his ability to accept his circumstance without fuss. The funeral will take place on 11 June at 1100hrs at St Bernadette's Church, Mather Avenue, Liverpool. There is to be a family interment afterwards. All who attended the funeral are invited after the funeral to HQ Liverpool UOTC, Mather Avenue. Martin Amlôt
