Ed, my oldest girl bought a cd on e-bay of old dos-type games. It requires a thing downloaded from a site called 'DOS-Box' to enable them to run on Vista. Is this safe or are there any other options? Cheers.

Stevie, DOS Box is safe it's been around for years. It runs in Windows (though I haven't used it since XP). It can be a little daunting to those who have little 'under the bonnet' experience but there are many alternatives. MAME is one alternative which has a decent GUI for users. Another alternative is to download the free Virtual PC from Microsoft and install legacy operating systems to run on that. Virtual PC goes right back to DOS and up through Win 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, (Forget ME and that crap) up to XP. DOS-Box and Mame are programs that developers has created to bring all of the separate emulators together within one application. You can still get the various emulators as standalone apps. - say you had some BBC Commadore games, or Amstrad games, you could just get that emulator and run your games on that. (Google search = 'emulators') I use Virtual PC.
