Hi Gents,
Can anyone tell me if the Kings were ever in South Arabia (Aden?). I cannot find a battalion posting for that area, but wondered if there might have been some single serviceman attachments to other units perhaps? Is this a possibility?
Many thanks.
Steve.

Hi harold 9919,
Thanks for that quick and valuable reply. I was just talking to someone about what areas the Kings had served in post WW2, they were postive they had been in Aden, whereas I could not find them having been there.
I think you have answered the question for me. Do you know what year the 9th Manchesters were out there?
Cheers.
Steve.

Hi Steve I may have misled you I have just been checking the history of the manchesters and found that it was the Kings own that did a tour of aden in 1958 after serving with the manchesters in the far east hope this helps you Harold

as a matter of interest you may like to know the kings liv and the manchesters amalgamated in 1958 The King's Regiment, abbreviated as KINGS and often referred to as King's, was an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the King's Division. It was formed by the amalgamation of the King's Regiment (Liverpool) which was formed in 1685 and the Manchester Regiment which traced its history back to 1758, on 1 September 1958. In existence for almost 50 years, the King's served in Kenya, Kuwait, British Guiana (Guyana), West Germany, Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, and Iraq. Between 1972 and 1990, 15 Kingsmen died in Northern Ireland during a violent period in the province's history known as the troubles If you look at the top of the page for the forum you will see the reg history

Thanks Harold,
I have been helping (if that is the right word?) a family, try and trace the service of one of their relatives. They prefer to keep his identity confidential but gave me some details of his service as: Malaya with the Manchester's, then South Arabia and N. Ireland with the Kings.
I have struggled to work out how he might of acquired his South Arabia service? Forgive me for being stupid but if his CSM service medal is impressed as Kings, then this can only be for the Kings (Liverpool) amalgamation and not Kings Own etc.
Thanks for your help.
Steve.

Hi 4fingers,
Thanks very much for your info, it all helps form a picture. The GSM has South Arabia and N. Ireland clasps on it. I have been on to the Aden Veterans site, brilliant website there. I am going to send them the question and see what they have to say.
Many thanks again.
Steve.
