COLOURS
The old Colours of 1st Battalion The King's Regiment 1978 and the Liverpool Scottish, The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders 1938 are now hanging in Liverpool Town Hall.
Since the earliest of times, banners and emblems have been carried into battle. In the British Army, the Infantry carried their Colours as an inspiration, a symbol of loyalty and a rallying point for members of the Regiment.
The Colours have become the symbol of the spirit of the Regiment, for they bear the battle honours and badges granted to the Regiment in commemoration of the gallant deeds performed by its members from the time it was raised.
The Colours are consecrated before being taken into use, and are laid up in sacred or public buildings after service to maintain the atmosphere of veneration with which they are surrounded.
The soldiers of the regiment are immensely proud of the service they have given to their City and it is with the utmost pride and gratitude to the Lord Mayor and the people of the City of Liverpool that the Regiment now lays up the Colours of two of our proud predecessors, the King’s Regiment and the Liverpool Scottish. There is no more fitting place than Liverpool’s Town Hall wherein to deposit our emblems of duty and service.
