A MEAKER, HOYLAKE, WRITES: Dear Kingsmen,
I am sure that you are aware the service "TURNING OF THE LEAVES", is held 4 times a year, on a Thursday at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral starting at 5.30pm and lasting approx. 30 minutes during Evensong. It is held to honour those who gave their lives in World War 1, World War 2, Korea, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Disappointingly, the numbers attending are diminishing, and we are currently relying on the same six or seven ex Kingsmen, two of whom travel many many miles to attend. Should this trend continue we have been advised by the Cathedral authorities that there might be no alternative but to cancel in the near future.
Therefore, I am appealing to the hundreds and hundreds of Kingsmen who are available locally, to at least attend 1 or 2 services a year. Surely 1 hour a year is not much to ask in order that the services continue to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
There are 3 ceremonies remaining this year:
Thursday 18th June at 5.30 pm Thursday 24th Sept at 5.30 pm Thursday 26th Nov at 5.30 pm
Regards Alan Meaker
