To: Veterans of the Iraq Campaign
At the launch of the Iraq Inquiry on 30 July I said that one of the Committee’s first priorities was to hear from those affected by the Iraq conflict since 2003, including those who served in Iraq as part of Op Telic.
I wrote earlier this month with details of the first open events which we are holding across the country for Telic veterans to participate in if they wish. The Committee was very grateful to those who attended the event in London today – we all found the discussion informative and welcome the open way in which all those present shared their experiences and views.
There are four further events planned:
• Friday 16 October: City Inn Hotel, 1 Auburn Street, One Piccadilly Place, Manchester M1 3DG. between 15:00 – 17:00hrs
• Wednesday 21 October: Apex European Hotel, 90 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh EH12 5LQ between 15:00 – 17:00hrs
• Friday 23 October: City Inn Hotel, Temple way, Bristol BS1 6BF between 15:00 – 17:00hrs
• Wednesday 28 October: Stormont House, Belfast BT4 3SH between 13:30 – 15:30hrs
All Telic veterans (currently serving, ex-Service, Reservist or civilian) are welcome to attend one of these events. It would be helpful if those planning to attend could let us know using the email address above. We would also appreciate it if people could bring photo ID with them. [For the meeting in Belfast, we will need to provide a list of names of attendees to the Stormont House security staff; they are all appropriately security cleared.]
I should emphasise that these events are by no means the only opportunity to give your views to the Inquiry. We are happy to receive the thoughts of individuals who served during the campaign or from relevant groups or associations on behalf of their members. Please send any submissions to the Iraq Inquiry Secretariat, at the above address.
The Committee are grateful for your help in this aspect of the Inquiry’s work and look forward to receiving your views in person, or in writing.
Yours sincerely
Sir John Chilcot
