A tidal causeway in Northumberland is being closed while several World War II bombs are detonated. The devices were discovered on Goswick Sands, near Holy Island causeway, which was mined and used as a bombing range in the 1940s. An RAF bomb disposal team based in the area works to detect and dispose of live wartime ordnance. The causeway and nearby footpaths are expected to be closed between 1200 BST and 1500 BST. Controlled explosions have been carried out in the area "many times", the RAF said. Military personnel and Northumbria Police officers will be in the area to advise members of the public.
