Received the following from City Headquarters, Liverpool:
LAYING UP THE COLOURS OF THE 1ST BATTALION THE KING’S REGIMENT (1978) AND 1ST BATTALION THE LIVERPOOL SCOTTISH, QUEEN’S OWN CAMERON HIGHLANDERS (1938)
It has been resolved by the Regimental Council that the Colours of the 1st Battalion The King's Regiment (1978) and the Liverpool Scottish The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders (1938) are to be laid-up in Liverpool Town Hall on Saturday 17th October 2009, following a Drumhead Service on Exchange Flags.
Prior to the Drumhead Service the Old Colours and their Guards together with the band of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment will form up in front of St George's Hall at 1100 hrs and march for the last time through Liverpool City Centre en-route to the Town Hall.
The Parade will then form up on Exchange Flags at 1130 hrs where the Lord Mayor of Liverpool will be invited to inspect the Guards. Following the inspection the Padres from the 1st and 4th Battalions will conduct a Drumhead Service prior to the Old Colours being marched off and handed over to the Lord Mayor in the Town Hall for safe keeping in perpetuity.
Members of the Regimental Associations are very welcome to attend and it is hoped all Branch Standards will be on parade along with branch members.
Following the service, the Lord Mayor has very kindly offered to host a civic reception for all soldiers on parade, Standard Bearers and a restricted number of invited guests. Invitations to the civic reception will be despatched by the Lord Mayor's Staff. Restrictions are unfortunately necessary because of the maximum number that can be accommodated safely in the Town Hall.
There are ample car parking facilities within easy walking distance from the Town Hall, but they are expensive. Those attending are encouraged to use public transport.
