An estimated 30,000 people attended this year's Colchester Military Festival which featured numerous pieces of military hardware as well as military displays by Colchester's home unit, 16 Air Assault Brigade. After a break last year, the fifth military festival took place at Abbey Field, Colchester, last Saturday, 18 July 2009, and this year saw the festival officially upgraded by the Ministry of Defence to a Category 1 event, meaning it featured an unprecedented number of military displays. Among the equipment on show was the Army's 'Start Thinking Soldier' battlefield simulator, an Apache attack helicopter, a Challenger 2 main battle tank, a dive tank used by Royal Engineer divers based at Woodbridge, the Parachute Regiment's jump tower, and a Royal Logistic Corps display of the Army's very latest vehicles.
