Getting back to the relatively slim, trim days of the 1970s would help to tackle climate change, researchers say. The rising numbers of people who are overweight and obese in the UK means the nation uses 19% more food than 40 years ago, a study suggests. That could equate to an extra 60 mega-tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year, the team calculated. Transport costs of a fatter population were also included in the International Journal of Epidemiology study. I knew these flares would come in handy one day!Read More >>

Only problem Ed is that they were flared at the bottoms, not the top..... Been thinking back to those times - what are the main differences? OK well there were fewer fast food outlets - a Wimpy in the main street if you were lucky to catch one open when the pubs closed. So if you got the 'munchies' you took a chance on any chippy you came across, and even then - if you had any money left - you might be turned off when you saw what they had left at that time. So basicaly you starved. Then having missed the last bus, you didn't have enough money for a taxi - if you could find one - so you walked home, half-stewed, with that wonderful homing instinct i.e. all you could see was your pit. Walking was good for you, you ploughed through anything because it didn't register until the next day, when you realised you had brought home a selection of grass, mud etc on your clothes. So to sum up, all we have to do to return to the 'healthy lifestyle of the '70s' is to a) get 75% of all taxis off the road and b) close 95% of all chippies. Voila'. A country fit to fight.
